The Ideal Candidate for a Facial:
Anyone troubled by fine lines, wrinkles, redness, or the early signs of aging can benefit from a facial. Both men and women, young and old, will experience an improvement in the texture, tone, and general appearance after a facial. The ideal candidate will understand the procedure and have realistic expectations for their results.
The Facial Procedure:
While there are many variations of the facial procedure, all treatments share a basic theory. The skin will be deeply cleansed using a safe blend of ingredients. Depending on the individual patient’s tolerance of discomfort, blackheads and whiteheads will be extracted to unclog pores. A deep tissue massage will be used to stimulate blood flow and circulation, and finally a soothing moisturizer will be applied. The esthetician will provide detailed home care instructions and advice.
5 Steps of the Facial Process:
1. Exfoliation
2. Extraction
3. Massage
4. Mask
5. Moisturizer
How soon a facial should be repeated will depend on the skin type, condition, aesthetic goals, and even where you live (dry, arid climates can affect skin differently than hot, humid conditions). Monthly facials can provide excellent results, although patients must wait at least 30 days between treatments. This will allow the old skin to slough off and the new tissue time to properly heal. At the initial consultation appointment, Dr. Whipple or Dr. Hillelson will create a treatment plan designed to meet the individual’s needs and desires.
Risk from a Facial:
Facials are safe and effective for every skin type; however a medical-grade facial should only be performed by a skilled practitioner. Complications, sometimes severe, do have the rare chance to occur. These can include infection of existing lesions, uneven treatment, and scarring. Dr. Hillelson and Dr. Whipple both have been safely providing facial rejuvenation procedures for over 25 years.
