Through the years, the tissue of the tissues of the face will begin to lose their elasticity and volume. These changes can be made worse by illness, sun damage, and dramatic weight changes. As the skin of the face becomes lax, deep creases and facial lines (static wrinkles) will occur. Fatty deposits under the eyes and along the cheek will start to diminish, giving the face a hollow appearance.
Juvederm Injectable Gel is a dermal filler, designed to treat the wrinkles and facial creases that occur with age. The smooth formula is comprised of Hyaluronic Acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance that provides the structure and form of tissues. Juvederm can plump the tissues and smooth lines around the eyes and mouth. As the filler binds with existing collagen stores, the benefits of Juvederm® can last for months.
Juvederm Can Benefit:
- Nasolabial Folds (between nose and mouth)
- Marionette Lines (corners of the mouth)
- Volume loss in jawline
When performed on its own, Juvederm® can rejuvenate the face. If the dermal filler is paired with other cosmetic treatments, such as laser resurfacing or a chemical peel, a more youthful appearance can be achieved. As Juvederm® treats static wrinkles, one complimentary procedure will include Botox Cosmetic. The toxin is used to improve dynamic wrinkles, or those caused by repetitive muscle movement.
The Ideal Candidate for Juvederm
Men and women frustrated by the lax facial tissue and depleted facial volume, associated with aging, may benefit from Juvederm Injectable Gel. The ideal candidate will be in generally good health and have realistic expectations for the results. Juvederm® is considered safe for all ethnicities and skin types.
The Juvederm Procedure
Juvederm Injectable Gel is applied in the Hillelson-Whipple Clinic office-suite, normally taking less than 30 minutes to complete. Using a very small needle, Juvederm® is applied to predetermined areas of the face. The injections are not known to be painful, however a local anesthetic may be used to increase the patient’s comfort level.
No downtime is required after a Juvederm session. Patients are able to return to work or school the same afternoon. While some slight redness or swelling may appear at the injection site, these will quickly dissipate. The results from Juvederm® are immediately noticeable. As the body’s collagen stores increase, the skin will gradually continue to improve. A repeat treatment will not be necessary for eight to ten months, possibly longer.
Risks of Juvederm®
Juvederm® is considered extremely safe, with very little risk for complications. When patients choose an experienced cosmetic surgeon, such as Dr. Hillelson, the chance for problems is further reduced. If side effects do occur, these may include discoloration at the injection site, lumps under the skin, and infection.
